The titular, DIY popiah is superb, as are the other hokkien dishes they serve - kongba bao, hokkien mee (what some call the KL kind) and fried prawn dumplings were all authentic and very tasty. Rare to find restaurants that can execute well on hokkien dishes. The orh nee (not hokkien, I know) is also good. My parents swear by this place. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ CT Ang
Savouring popiah always brings back cherished memories of the joy and togetherness of family gatherings. Good Chance Popiah in Bukit Merah perfectly encapsulates this experience. Managed by 'Ah Boy', the third generation of his family, this cozy eatery has been a staple for authentic Hokkien cuisine since 1977.
Here, it's all about the hands-on experience of making your own Popiah, a traditional Hokkien dish. You get to fill the soft, chewy skin with a variety of ingredients, ranging from ribbons of omelette to fresh vegetables and savoury sauces. This interactive process is not just fun; it also makes each bite deliciously rewarding.

Good Chance Popiah
Their signature Good Chance Popiah is a must-try. You start with a soft, chewy skin, fill it with a delicious mix of seven different ingredients, including hard-boiled egg and a flavourful braised filling. Adding their homemade chili sauce gives it an extra spicy kick. It's an experience that's as enjoyable as it is tasty.
Stewed Pork with Steamed Buns (Kong Ba Pao)
But there’s more to this place than just Popiah. The Stewed Pork with Steamed Buns (Kong Ba Pao) is a classic Hokkien dish that’s a staple here. What sets their Kong Bak Pao apart is the addition of fried yam slices, a unique touch that adds a delightful texture and flavour to the dish. The yellow pau skin used for the steamed buns is specially sourced from a local producer, who incorporates pumpkin puree for its vibrant colour.
Home-Make Prawn Roll
Don't miss out on the Home-Made Prawn Roll. It’s generously stuffed with succulent prawns and flavorful pork, with fresh water chestnuts providing a satisfying crunch. Paired with their signature sweet sauce and popiah chili, it's a harmonious blend of flavours in every bite.
Beyond these favourites, Good Chance Popiah also offers a range of other zhi char dishes that are equally tantalizing. Take their Black Hokkien Mee, for instance – those broad noodles cooked in a rich, dark sauce with pork lard are an epitome of comfort food.
