Swee Choon Dim Sum Restaurant : A Local Cult Favourite

In Singapore, Swee Choon Tim Sum Restaurant is almost a rite of passage for any dim sum lover, and for us Oddlers, it’s our go-to for those late-night cravings or early morning hangover cures. Tucked away in a row of old shophouses in Jalan Besar, this place has been serving up dim sum since the '60s and has the kind of charm that newer spots just can't replicate.

Mee Suah Kueh - Deep-Fried Vermicelli Cake

One bite of Swee Choon’s Mee Suah Kueh, and you'll know why this spot's fame has endured. It's an unconventional twist on vermicelli – deep-fried till golden and crispy on the outside, yet maintaining a comforting softness within. It's that perfect mix of crispy and soft that you won't find anywhere else, and a quick dip into chili sauce just elevates it to another level.

Prawn & Banana Fritter

The Prawn & Banana Fritter is a combo you might not think to put together, but once you try Swee Choon's version, it just clicks. It's the dish we argue over who gets the last bite.

Steamed Salted Egg Custard Bun

And of course, no visit is complete without wrestling over the last Steamed Salted Egg Custard Bun. Breaking it apart, watching that golden salted egg lava flow – it's a little piece of food theatre on our table every single time. Or a cure to your hangover.

Dim Sum Done? There's Always Room for More

Even after the dim sum plates are cleared, we always seem to have room for Shrimp Hor Fun, with its velvety egg sauce and perfectly cooked shrimps. The wok hei is spot on, every time. And the Shrimp Fried Rice is the kind of comfort food that has us planning our next visit before we've even left.

Discover Swee Choon's Timeless Allure

There’s something about Swee Choon that keeps pulling us back. Maybe it's the nostalgia or the way the dim sum carts rattle just like they did back in 1962. For me, it's the echo of countless conversations shared over plates of their signature dishes after a night of partying. Step inside, and let Swee Choon show you why its legacy of taste, comfort, and community has stood strong through the years.
